LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore
High Court on Friday suspended operation of summons issued to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Abdul Aleem Khan by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allegedly at the behest of National Assembly Speaker S
ardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The court also so
ught reply from the ECP till January 17, 2017.
Petitioner counsel submitted t
hat the ECP had initiated criminal proceedings against Aleem Khan after accusi
ng him of submitting fake affidavits before an election tribunal.
He said t
hat the ECP was illegally issuing summons to the petitioner at the behest of the NA speaker.
He said t
hat the court had already declared illegal such actions by the ECP against the petitioner. He said t
hat the summons issued by the ECP were a result of political victimisation and had no legal values.
He requested the court to set aside the summons issued by the commission.
